General Overview

• Provides Quality, Safety and Health, and Environmental Management System consultation to various organizations throughout the US.

• Conducts tailored training courses and seminars for implementing, auditing, and improving management systems, as well as, root cause analysis, continual improvement, and integration.

• Plans and leads Registration and Surveillance audits for certification bodies (UL, NSF, BSI)

• Conducts Exemplar Global certified Lead Auditor courses for the British Standards Institute (BSI).

• Trains and prepares managers and senior executives for management system and continual improvement implementations.

 

History

Rich began his career troubleshooting and improving specific processes as a Process Engineer. After implementing ISO 9001:1987 for Westinghouse Electric, he realized the value and importance of management systems and has led more than 90 plant sites to various management system certifications since 1990. Rich is an independent consultant for a select list of clients and is the owner / manager of Barish Consulting. He is also an associate consultant for Whittington & Associates and Verrico Associates, LLC. Rich is a BSI lead instructor and performs the Exemplar Global accredited Lead Auditor courses for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 13485, IATF 16949, and RC14001.

 

Industry Experience

Rich has over 30 years of quality, environmental, and safety & health management system experience, most of which he performed as a Lead Auditor.  Rich has experience implementing ISO 9001, QS-9000, ISO 13485, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, RCMSâ, and RC14001 systems with numerous manufacturing and service organizations, including Austin Energy, Bayer, Borg Warner, Chrysler, Daikin, Dow, Dupont, Goodman, Kemira, Kodak, Lanxess, MeadWestvaco Corp., Milliken, Mohawk, PPG, Toyota, WR Grace, Westinghouse Electric Corp, Volvo, and many others.  Rich is proficient in the manufacturing of films, automotive parts, specialty chemicals, specialty polymers, circuit boards, wire/cable, woven/non-woven, pulp and paper, assembly operations, continuous line operations, supporting equipment, supporting services, and service providers.  Rich has expert knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and Control Plan development, as well as experience with SPC, SQC, Problem Solving Tools, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Continual Improvement. He has conducted courses regarding Quality, Environmental, and Safety & Health Management Systems, Systems Integration, TQM, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IATF 16949, ISO 45001, RC14001, Internal Auditing, Automotive Core Tools, Quality Tools, Problem Solving, and other related courses since 1992.  .

 

Trade Membership and Certification

Rich is an Exemplar Global certified Master QMS and EMS Auditor.  Rich is a senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and has served as the keynote speaker for various National Conferences.

 

Education & Training

Rich obtained his Master of Science at Southern Polytechnic State University in Quality Assurance (Quality Engineering), and his Bachelor of Science with honors in Engineering Science and Mechanics from The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State).
